At kmG Hauling, our truck drivers are committed to ensuring that we always deliver best in class service. Our drivers are specialized in the collection and disposal of trash, recycling, bulk, construction, and demolition (C&D) and other debris from commercial and residential communities in D.C., Maryland, and Virginia.
Certified training
We ensure that all our truck drivers are reliable and trained before going out in the field. We follow a strict protocol when it comes to hiring. One of the main items a driver must have checked off the list is to have a driver’s license and overall, a good driving record. They are put through a background check, drug test, a road test, and an eight-hour orientation training. Depending on how long they have had their license determines how long their training is. The training ranges between 6 – 30 days before they are finally assigned as a truck driver and provided a route.
To learn more about what our truck driver’s do, let’s dive into a day in the life of one of these dedicated individuals as they navigate the city streets, ensuring that our waste is efficiently and responsibly disposed of.
A day in the life
William Del Cid is one of kmG’s longest truck driver’s and has been committed to the company since October 2005. William says that every day is different, and all depends on the route he is given.
William’s day typically begins in the early hours of the morning. He must first perform a pre-trip inspection to ensure the truck is in optimal condition for the day’s tasks. “When I get to work, I make sure my truck is working properly and ensure there is no problem that could prevent me from doing my job,” says Del Cid.
Once the truck is ready to roll, William reviews the day’s route. Routes are carefully planned to cover designated areas efficiently, minimizing fuel consumption and maximizing productivity. As a long time kmG truck driver, William has knowledge of the city’s layout and traffic patterns.
Our truck drivers, specifically William are great at adapting to challenges. Navigating through narrow alleys, coping with inclement weather, and overcoming unexpected obstacles are all part of the trash truck driver’s daily challenges. The ability to adapt to these situations showcases resilience and commitment to the job.
Before William wraps up the day, he takes a walk around the truck to make sure everything is functional and ready for the next shift. Despite being behind the wheel for hours and facing various challenges, William finds fulfillment in knowing that his efforts contribute to creating a healthier and more sustainable urban environment. Next time you hear the familiar rumble of a garbage truck passing by, take a moment to appreciate the unsung heroes who keep our cities clean and vibrant.
